Can’t find a suitable Mother of the Bride outfit? Create the perfect one with us instead.
WITH BESPOKE, YOUR DRESS SEARCH IS OVER
At THE MODISTE we understand it can be difficult to find a dress that is the right style and fit for you. And that’s before you can find it in the right fabric and colour as well!
With decades of dressmaking expertise, we create unique outfits especially for you. For example, our designs can be completely tailored to suit your skin tone whilst still co-ordinating with the rest of the bridal party too. Having a dress (or any outfit) made especially for you is often described as bespoke.
A bespoke dress will ensure that nobody else at your event is wearing the same outfit. Your outfit can reflect your individual style and preferences rather than current fashion trends.
Enjoy a dress without a size label
Having a dress or outfit made by THE MODISTE is an experience which is completely different from shopping online or on the high street. Bespoke means your dress size is no longer a factor.
The process of creating your bespoke dress is all about making you feel confident in the final garment and ensuring that you look your best.
Our dressmaking team will create your outfit using years of understanding and experience, and have your best interests at heart.
You can trust in their expertise and the process, knowing the final result will be an item of clothing which you’ll cherish.
What is the process of bespoke dressmaking?
During your first consultation we will discuss your ideas before inviting you to try on some toiles.
A toile is a cotton sample garment. It helps your dressmaker to see what cut of the fabric makes you feel good and creates the silhouette that you want to achieve. We will show you some options of fabrics and discuss your perfect colours.
After your consultation, your dressmaker will email your design to you so that you can take your time to consider the details. You will also be provided with a final cost estimate.
Take it step by step and enjoy the process (and a glass of prosecco if you wish!)
In your future fittings we work on perfecting the fit of your outfit. We also move onto the fun parts of dressmaking, such as deciding on any beading or lace which will really make your outfit unique.
How long does a mother of the bride outfit take to make?
You can look forward to around four appointments for your perfect bespoke outfit.
These fittings are very relaxed and will allow time for you to decide on the final touches that make your outfit unique and special to you. Please do make sure to contact us as soon as you know you would like to create a bespoke dress.
We ideally start the process around five months before your wedding or big event. Tighter turn arounds can be possible.
Extra time is often required for hand-beading of the fabric or lace. This will only be done after you have approved samples and seen the quality of our seamstress’s work.
The final dress fittings will always be in the last few months and weeks before your big event.
How much does a bespoke Mother of the Bride dress cost?
It is important to be upfront with your seamstress of your budget as they will work with you to keep to this.
It is a good idea to decide what is important to you when it comes to fabric choices because this will affect the final cost of your dress. For example, do you want 100% silk in every layer, or could the linings be polyester?
Also, take into consideration what design choices will mean paying more for your seamstresses’ time. For example, beading by hand is a fine art and therefore more time consuming and more expensive. For example, if you would like a beaded dress but are looking to keep costs down, we can suggest a pre-beaded alternative material instead.
At THE MODISTE, our bespoke formal guest outfits average around £2,000. This will include all of your appointments, no hidden extra costs and fitting your outfit perfectly to you. We will take care of everything all up to steaming your outfit for the day.
In autumn/winter 2024 we will also be launching a special occasion wear collection with prices starting from £900.
This is a made-to-order dressmaking service. Instead of starting completely from scratch, our collection offers you classic dress designs and fabrics. Our collection will help you create a unique made-to-measure special occasion wear, whether it is a mother of the bride outfit or simple an investment piece for your wardrobe.
